Tough Road Loss for the Lady Lions
Penn State Beaver and Penn State Schuylkill collide in a high-stakes conference showdown where pride, intensity, and bragging rights take center stage.
PSU Beaver dropped an 11–3 decision to Penn State Schuylkill on April 10, 2026, at Blue Mountain High School. Beaver struck first in the top of the first when Jaiden Patterson came home on a Kierstyn Mays groundout, but the hosts answered immediately in the bottom half. Keira Devor drove in a run with a single, and another run scored on a steal of home to put Beaver behind after one. The second inning stayed quiet for Beaver, while the home side added to its lead with a run-scoring single to create separation heading into the middle frames.
The game broke open in the third and fourth innings as the hosts piled on runs with a string of extra-base hits and timely singles, turning a close early contest into a lopsided margin. Beaver's offense was limited through the middle innings, managing just four hits on the night, highlighted by Haydan Buacan's double and RBI. In the circle, Mackenzie Boyd took the loss in her start, with Reza Benson working in relief as Beaver tried to stem the momentum.
Beaver showed late fight in the fifth, scoring twice, one run coming home after Patterson reached on an error that allowed Reese Riordan to score, followed by Buacan's RBI double to bring Patterson in. Still, the early deficit and the decisive middle innings proved too much to overcome, and Beaver settled for the 11–3 final. Despite the result, Beaver had a few bright spots at the plate and on the bases, including stolen bases from Patterson and Riordan, but couldn't match the sustained pressure applied by the home lineup.
PSU Beaver dropped a tight, low-scoring matchup to Penn State Schuylkill Team 23 on April 11, 2026, at Blue Mountain High School, falling 2–1. The game was scoreless through four innings before both offenses broke through in the fifth, and the difference ultimately came down to a pair of Beaver defensive miscues and one big extra-base hit. PSU Beaver finished with 1 run on 5 hits and 3 errors, while drawing 1 walk and striking out twice.
Game 2:
Both teams opened cautiously, with neither side able to cash in early chances. PSU Beaver's Kierstyn Mays settled in quickly in the circle, working around traffic and keeping the ball in the yard, while Beaver hitters were held in check despite putting a couple of balls in play. The first two frames set the tone for a pitcher-led game where baserunners would be at a premium.
The middle innings stayed quiet on the scoreboard, but the tension built as each team tried to manufacture offense. PSU Beavers' defense had to handle multiple balls in play, and Mays continued to miss bats when she needed an out, piling up strikeouts to keep the game even. At the plate, Beaver managed contact but couldn't string together the timely hit needed to break the deadlock.
The game flipped in the fifth. PSU Beaver struck first when Haley Cook came home on Jaiden Patterson's sacrifice fly to right, giving Beaver a 1–0 lead. The advantage didn't last: Schuylkill answered in the bottom half with a run-scoring triple and then a go-ahead RBI single, pushing Beaver behind 2–1. From there, Beaver threatened but couldn't find the equalizer, and the final two innings passed without another run as the one-run deficit held to the end.
PSU Beaver did enough to lead late, but the fifth inning swung the outcome as Schuylkill capitalized on its opportunities and Beaver couldn't answer afterward. With solid pitching from Mays and a couple of extra-base hits, Beaver showed they could compete in a tight game. Now, the focus turns to cleaning up the defensive mistakes and finding one more timely hit in close contests.
They look to overcome this in the coming weeks as the conference starts to heat up. The team will take the field again on Tuesday, April 14th at 2 pm and 4 pm when they take on Penn State DuBois at home. For all things Penn State Beaver Softball, check out beaverathletics.com!
