Penn State Beaver
Monaca, PA - Penn State Beaver overcame an early deficit to outlast La Roche 10–7 at Beaver Field, improving to 2–8 on the season. La Roche struck first with two runs in the top of the first, but Beaver responded immediately with three runs in the bottom half to take a 3–2 lead. After a scoreless second inning, La Roche regained control in the third with a three-run surge to go up 5–3. The middle innings remained tight, with Beaver pulling even at 5–5 in the fifth. The Beavers broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning, highlighted by Mackenzie Boyd's two-run home run, giving them a 10–6 cushion. La Roche added a run in the seventh, but Beaver held on to secure the comeback victory.
Reza Benson led the offense with three hits and two RBIs, while Mackenzie Boyd went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, a home run, and a walk. Haydan Baucan and Jaiden Patterson each scored twice and drove in a run, and Kierstyn Mays added two RBIs. Mays also went the distance on the mound, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits with two walks and two strikeouts. Beaver's sixth-inning surge, fueled by extra-base hits and timely power, proved to be the decisive stretch in this back-and-forth contest.
Penn State Beaver fell in a five-inning nonconference game, losing 11–0 at Beaver Field. The visitors scored early, using a bases-loaded walk and an RBI single in the first inning to take a 2–0 lead. The second inning proved decisive, as the visitors erupted for seven runs on timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to extend the lead to 9–0. Beaver managed just two hits in the game, singles from Haydan Baucan and Mia Gomez, and drew five walks but could not convert those chances into runs.
From the third through fifth innings, the visitors added two more runs to close out the 11–0 victory. Mackenzie Boyd took the loss, pitching 1.1 innings, with Reza Benson finishing the final 3.2 innings. Beaver committed two errors defensively, while the visitors combined for a two-hit shutout with Taylor Young earning the win, assisted by Finley Hohn and Maura Wade. The Beavers will look to rebound from the shutout and tighten their defense as the early season continues.
